Have you purchased a welder and are frustrated with it? Have you tried projects, and they just don't work out? Are you completely at a loss on what welder to get, or not even sure what your needs are? Maybe you just need some advice on what settings you should be using?
Sure you can take welding classes at ACC (well you could before Covid), but they aren't cheap. They don't use your machine, or machines similar to what most hobbyists or home welders are going to use. Lastly it's not on your schedule and in your shop. If you have the time and money, they are great, but lets be honest you wouldn't be reading this if you hadn't already decided that wasn't the best option.
You can learn a lot from the internet, and there are some great Youtube channels out there (I will happily recommend some if you are looking for some). However it's a little different when the hood drops and things don't work like you thought they would. Having someone there in person to guide you is invaluable to learning how to weld.
I am a school trained welder, with an associates degree in Welding Technology from Central Texas College in Killeen in '98. I have a professional background in adult education, and love teaching.
I offer in person, on site welding instruction in all the common processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW; also more commonly known as stick, MIG, flux cored both self shielded and gas shielded, and TIG), along with instruction in oxyfuel(oxygen acetylene or oxygen propane) cutting, plasma cutting, and general metal working. Instruction can cover everything from the very basics of wanting to get a welder and other tools and not knowing what to get, to simply offering coaching to improve your skill and end results. If you've already purchased a welder, we can work with what you have, or if need be I can bring my own equipment and we can figure out what you need.
I will provide a limited amount of practice plates and consumables to teach with, but it's up to the student to have their own supplies to practice with after I leave. I do however sell both consumables (stick electrodes, MIG wire, TIG filler rods, etc) and practice metal, if you'd like to keep things simple.
Instruction runs $60 an hour for one on one instruction if we're using my equipment. If you have your own, I charge $40 an hour. I service the majority of the Central Texas area and on arrangement will travel further.
